Frequently Asked Questions
Are you Insured?
I have full public liability and professional indemnity insurance.

How do I book a session?
Just give me a call on 01590 611288 or email me to make a booking and I can check the diary. Weekend dates are very popular and get booked about six-eight weeks in advance.

Can I book a session as a gift for someone else?
This is a very popular method. I offer gift vouchers for you to personalise to give to a friend, family member of loved one.

When do we pay for our shoot?
The session fee is payable when you book your photographic session and this secures your date and time in the diary. This fee is non-refundable but fully transferable to another date if at least 5 days notice is given (excluding sickness). Dates are unable to be secured until payment has been received. Prints and albums are paid for at the time of your viewing/ordering appointment.

What happens if we need to reschedule?
There is no charge for rescheduling providing you give at least 72 hours notice. However, if you provide less notice and still want to reschedule, I would require you to pay 25% rescheduling fee. The rescheduled session will need to take place within three months from the original booking, in order to safeguard your original fee.

Who owns the copyright of the images?
Under the copyright and patents act of 1988, Photography New Forest retains the copyright of all images taken. It is a criminal offence to copy, screen grab, scan or reproduce photographs without written consent by Joanne Coulter. If you purchase digital files, you are granted a licence to use your images for personal use. Your purchased files can then be used for sharing with your friends and family on social media sites (watermarked copies will be provided for this purpose), for updating model or acting portfolios and printing out for yourself, family and friends. These images are not to be sold or given to any third parties without prior consent by Joanne. Images that are purchased as digital files are not to be altered in any way that change the integrity of the image without prior consent.

Images taken in photographic sessions may be used by Photography New Forest for display or marketing purposes. This could include social media, marketing literature, or galleries on this website. This is for the purpose of promoting my photography so clients can see the style of work I create. If you would prefer your child’s images not to be displayed in this way please let me know in writing when you book your photographic session.

By booking a photographic session at Photography New Forest you are agreeing to all the above terms and conditions and I thank you for your respect.

Do you provide packages of just images on a disc?
Yes we do offer digital files on a USB within packages. Your portraits are priceless and for you to treasure for the rest of your life. The quality of the prints and albums I create are truly stunning. You can purchase the high-resolution files, if you wish, but this is in addition to your print, wall art or album purchase.

Do you archive the images and if so, for how long?
Yes 2 months. I charge an archiving fee of £35 for retrieving images.

Do you carry spare equipment?
I always have spare equipment should anything happen.

What methods of payment do you accept?
I accept cheque, cash and payment by bank transfer. Payment can also be made by debit and credit cards.

Where does the session take place?
Sessions take place in the studio here in Beaulieu. I am not currently offering on-location newborn sessions.

When do newborn sessions take place?
Newborn sessions are scheduled before baby reaches 10 days new. This is done for many reasons. Newborns this young are more likely to “curl up” and remain sleepy for the duration of the session. They are much more tolerant of being posed and moved around than a 3 or 4 week old. Almost all of the “sleepy newborn” shots you see here on the website were done with newborns 14 days old or younger. If your baby is older than 2 weeks, don’t worry, we can still capture beautiful photos-it may just take more effort on both ends and we will need to skip some of the poses you see.

How do I book when Im not 100% sure on the baby’s due date?
That’s easy… let me know your due date and we will make tentative plans around that time. Once baby is born, let me know as soon as possible (ideally within the first couple of days and absolutely before baby is 7 days) and we will select an actual date. If you do not contact me within that first week, I cannot guarantee availability before the 2 week mark, so please contact me sooner. I always try to leave availability for my newborns, but I do have other session scheduled in advance.

Can I bring something special like an heirloom or prop to the session?
Yes! I encourage my clients to bring a little something to incorporate in the session to make it more “them”. Whether your a huge sports enthusiast, or a military member, I will do my best to include this in the photos.

Can I request specific poses?
Yes, you can. I will make every attempt to get you what you want in terms of poses; however there are certain poses, that in my own opinion, are unsafe and pose harm to the baby. These poses, I will not do. Again, baby is my number one priority.

Can siblings and parents be in a few shots?
Of course, I do recommend that siblings and anyone who is not mom or dad and is wanting to be in photos with baby, come the last 30-60 minutes of the session. The session does last a few hours and little ones tend to get cranky having to wait around (my little one would too!). On this note, I highly recommend any extra members aside from the baby wishing to be in the shots, be sure to keep a close eye on manicured hands prior to the session. Sounds silly, but newborn photography typically focuses on close up shots and details. Especially important if you plan on hanging a large piece of stunning newborn wall art in your home, you wont want to be distracted with forgotten details such as these. I promise you!

Is there anything else I should remember to bring?
A “soothie” pacifier. These are GOLD in keeping them asleep! Once you book, I will send you a full detailed information kit with everything you’ll need for session date.

What should I expect from a lifestyle session?
My aim is to make the session really enjoyable and relaxed for everyone – especially for those who are a little anxious on camera. Before your session, I communicate how the shoot works and any special requests or ideas you have. When you arrive on the day of your session, we can chat and confirm through everything – it’s very relaxed and ultimately, I want you to have fun and enjoy the experience.

How long does the session generally last?
A lifestyle shoot usually takes about 1 hour allowing time for outfit changes if needed and Studio sessions are generally approximately 1 hour as well but we can do a mix of both within the hour session.

How far in advance should we book our session?
The diary generally runs about a month or two in advance during busy periods, please allow as much time in order to secure your required date.

How many images will we see during our viewing?
Different types of sessions dictate how many images are captured. However, as a rough guide, a newborn or engagement shoots usually averages 40-50 images and a family shoot about 35-50 images (depending on the size of the family) and will be shown in various finishes including colour and black & white.

How many people can be included in a lifestyle session?
I generally work on a maximum of 10 adults in the studio but no limitations on location work.

Where do the photoshoots take place?
Most of our shoots take place in our studio in Beaulieu in The New Forest. We also have access to some outdoor settings on site as well as lovely parks nearby. This gives our customers a selection of beautiful images from both environmental and studio photography within a single session.

If you have a request to have your shoot at your home or somewhere special to you, then this is also an option.

What if my children are a bit excitable and wont sit still?
I’m a parent to two lively toddlers and, as such, have the ability to entertain children and make them laugh. The sessions are always very relaxed and even if it takes the children a while to settle, I always get the all important shots for my clients. Please rest assured, there’s no reason to worry!

Do you have a makeup artist and hair stylist?
I have some excellent make up artists and stylists local to the studio. Feel free to contact me for more details.

Can we include our pet in the photoshoot?
Pets are important too! They are part of the family after all! Pets are absolutely welcome in the studio and the Beaulieu river on my doorstep for location shoots.

Is there anything we need to bring with us to the shoot?
I always ask my clients to bring a couple of outfit changes and any props that tell a story about you/your hobby and interests as a family. Please contact me in advance for more guidance on what to bring to your specific session.

How much direction will we receive during our session?
I am happy to offer tips and advice on how to stand/sit as well as capture natural poses. I’m equally happy to be client led if they have any specific requests.

What if myself or any of my family/friends are uncomfortable in front of the camera?
You are not alone. I am happy to talk through any concerns and am confident, with my fun and gentle approach, you will put at ease.

How long after the shoot will we see the images?
I like to invite you back to the studio two to three weeks after your shoot to see your pictures. At your ordering session, you will see a selection of the best images from your photoshoot, which have been colour-corrected, cropped, looking polished and ready to show you. The slideshow is set to music and you are welcome to sit back, relax and enjoy reviewing your beautiful images with a cup of tea . A viewing usually lasts for about 1 hour.

Can you Photoshop images to remove scratches, bruises and skin blemishes?
I offering retouching services on purchased images at additional cost.

Is there any obligation to buy anything after the shoot?
There is absolutely no pressure to make a purchase, however, I think you’ll find it hard not to choose from your beautiful selection.

If you have any questions, please give me a call or send me an email and I’ll respond as quickly as I possibly can.
